Notes and Reviews
With conductors Eugene Goossens and Hans Kindler, you're going to get very high-spirited performances of Tchaikovsky's music, in dramatic, fascinating interpretations. In the fast movements, the string players often take Tchaikovsky's rapid rhythmic figures more quickly than many modern interpretations yet with impressive ensemble clarity. The overall musicianship of both orchestras is precise and often outstanding. Considering the mono sound, the digital remastering is quite clear, but it is these energetic performances that might have you soon forgetting the boxed-in, historic 1940/41 broadcast ambiance, as attention is soon drawn to rip-roaring, old fashioned Tchaikovsky from a bygone era. - Greg La Traille,
