Passionate, inspired performances and brilliant technique are the hallmark of pianist ChangYong Shin, First Prize winner of the 2018 Gina Bachauer International Artist Piano Competition, 2018 Rencontre Internationale des Pianistes "Prix Zygmunt Zaleski" in Paris, 2017 Seoul International Piano Competition, and 2016 Hilton Head International Piano Competition. With performances in South Korea, Italy, France, the UK, across the United States, and a growing reputation for compelling interpretations, Mr. Shin is developing an international career as a soloist and chamber musician.

Highlights of Mr. Shin’s solo recitals include appearances at New York City’s Weill Recital Hall, Seoul Art Center, Seongnam Art Center; in a live broadcast recital for classical WQXR-FM’s Midday Masterpieces series at New York City's The Greene Space, Barletta Piano Festival in Italy, Ruhr Klavier-Festival in Germany, Salle Cortot Hall in Paris, Newport Music Festival, Green Lake Festival of Music, solo recitals for Kumho Cultural Foundation's Rising Star series at Kumho Art Hall, and Evelyn Miller Young Pianists Series. Orchestral performances have included the Utah Symphony Orchestra, Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, Sendai Philharmonic, KBS Orchestra, Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra, Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Gwacheon Philharmonic Orchestra.

Chamber performances include a recital at the invitation of Kumho Art Hall, and a special performance of a new work by Korean composer Young-Jo Lee at the Seoul Art Center as a member of Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts. He has appeared in chamber recitals in such renowned venues as the Louvre Museum, The Greene Space, Philadelphia’s Holy Trinity Church, and Sonoma State University’s Green Music Center in California, among others.

Mr. Shin released his debut album on the Steinway & Sons label in January 2018. Comprising works by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, the acclaimed CD was listed as one of the "Best New Recordings of 2018" by WQXR. In 2019 Steinway & Sons released his second album featuring the music of Beethoven, Liszt, and Chopin.

A native of South Korea, ChangYong Shin began piano studies with Ms. Mari Kwon at the Yewon School, then studied with Choong-Mo Kang at the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts. In 2011, he emigrated to the United States to study at the Curtis Institute of Music under Robert McDonald, where, as a recipient of a Paul G. Mechklin Scholarship, he received his Bachelor of Music in May 2016. In May 2018 Mr. Shin earned a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School, where he was awarded a Jerome L. Greene scholarship. Currently, Mr. Shin is enrolled in Juilliard's Artist Diploma program under Robert McDonald.
